A Course in Miracles is a program that changed my life and all of my relationships. It was the first time that I felt as though I understood Jesus Christ and God, and my entire world began to make sense. It is a book channeled by two Professors of Medical Psychology in the late 1970s. The main teaching of the Course is:

Nothing real can be threatened.

Nothing unreal exists.

Herein lies the peace of God.

Truth is love, everything else is not real.

Sin is defined as a lack of love, not an evil to be punished.

Everything that God made in it’s purest essence is true and loving.

The Course in Miracles teaches that the world of human perception is based on human interpretation, not God’s truth. Therefore, all of human perception is a series of illusions, or dreams that we must be able to separate ourselves from in order to see the true nature of reality. In these human dreams we love another to get something ourselves. In God’s reality love is incapable of asking for anything. It is the function of God, through the Holy Spirit to show us the truth and allow us to see through the illusions.

The thoughts and emotions in our minds create an internal lens through which we see our world. We then interpret our world through this lens. We then use these perceptions to justify every time we step away from love through attack or fear. We must forgive ourselves for becoming a reflection of a world that is separate from God and created by our own minds. We must also learn to look past these ego bound perceptions time and time again in ourselves and in every other person to see the God Self that exists in each of us and create our own personal Heaven on Earth.

The pathway to seeing the God Self in one another requires allowing three divine forces into your life.

The first is the Christ Mind. The Christ Mind belongs to God, it doesn’t need external approval, possessions or love. The Christ Mind is forever complete, safe, loved and loving. When you read the words that Jesus Christ has spoken, you gain a glimpse into the Christ Mind

The second is the submission to the voice and will of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the voice of transcendent love and compassion that always feels good, it never condemns, it is eternally forgiving. Human perception sees through the body’s eyes and through the body’s ears. We have been trained by the world, and even by Christians to interpret the world through the lens of ego.  A Course in Miracles spends many daily meditations focusing on training our minds to align with Christ and the Holy Spirit.

The third comes as a spontaneous force when you have aligned with Christ’s Mind and the Voice of the Holy Spirit and that is the Vision of God. The Vision of God is a gift that we may all pray to be blessed with every day. This is the vision of a totally loving and perfect world. Not as an idealist image in your mind, but through your current reality. It requires us to surrender ourselves to the truth of God through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit and retrain ourselves in God’s world, a world where the ego is alive, but only working to glorify and love the true nature of all sentient beings in God’s name. In the words of the authors,

“Its kindly light shows all things from another point of view, reflecting the thought system that arises from knowledge and making return to God not only possible, but inevitable. What was regarded as injustices done by someone else, now becomes a call for help and for union. Sin, sickness and attack are seen as misperceptions calling for remedy through gentleness and love. Defenses are laid down, because where there is no attack, there is no need for them. Our brother’s needs become our own, because they are taking the journey with us as we go to God. Without us they would lose their way. Without them we could never find our own…Holding no one prisoner to guilt, we become free. Acknowledging Christ in all our brothers, we recognize His Presence in ourselves”
